monday quotes and misc

Our stewardship of money tells a deep and consequential story. It forms our biography.”
Randy Alcorn, quoted in Giving by John Ortberg, Laurie Pederson, & Judson Poling

“Personally I believe that man’s fascination for art lies in our unsatisfied desire for identity. I believe that our unarticulated longing for freedom, our painful and impractical and completely unreasonable longing for freedom derives simply from the fact that we are shut up inside that system of apparent necessities which is called our personality, or which we call our personality, because we need to fasten a fine-sounding name to the cage in which we have shut ourselves up. We live a crippled life, shut up inside the narrow cage of considerations, caught in the net of expectations.” (Words Through the Years, 1966)

Great news for my Uncle Phil (who is one of the finest pastors/writers I know)….I want to share with you a fresh development in our lives. I’m sorry to put this in a form email, but I thought you would want to know. I have just accepted a role as a pastor on staff at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Here are the details. I met Pastor Brady Boyd (Senior Pastor of New Life Church) in the hallway in December, which led to a meeting in April which eventually led to Brady inviting me to join the team at New Life. It is a role called the Associate Pastor of Leadership Development. I will not only l help develop volunteers and staff of the church, but in the long term Brady’s vision is to develop a wider ministry to churches out of the lessons learned in restoration. So I will be able to serve pastors of other churches. I feel a call to help develop the health of New Life and to serve other pastors and churches out of the lessons learned there.

My uncle Phil has served in Australia, Hawaii and now sunny Colorado!

Here’s a sign of the times. You can watch a wedding live online – which would come in handy when distance or other circumstances won’t allow you or a dear family member or friend to attend. Check them out HERE.

uno shining momento

i watched the game until the bitter end (for the record Chase picked Kansas in his bracket) – just to see this – one shining moment…it’s an annual tradition in my house…just like watching the chandiler drop in NYC each year…

another good quote

April 9, 2008

Here’s a quote I like a lot (don’t know where it originated):
“The future cannot be predicted because it is waiting to be created.”
That makes me really excited to be alive.

it was a valiant battle but in the end – Tom DeJonge has prevailed! I was so close…

somewhere tom dejonge is gloating...

monday quotes

April 7, 2008

“Our purpose for life does not consist only in ’spiritual’ activities. There is also value in showing up for work, waxing our car, playing with our children, or taking a trip to the beach — just a few of the many things we do, not because we are Christian, but primarily because we are human.” – Michael E. Wittmer

“Many adventures await those who follow Jesus.” – Phil McCallum

“A faith without some doubts is like a human body without antibodies in it. People who blithely go through life too busy or indifferent to ask hard questions about why they believe as they do will find themselves defenseless against either the experience of tragedy or the probing questions of a smart skeptic.” – Tim Keller

“If you talk about big things with your children when they are little and you are young;
they will talk about the little things with you when they are big and you are old.” – David Foster

“Genuine passion declares that God is good and because He is good, life is good and it’s worth pouring ourselves into. It’s worth taking risks and being creative if we can bring more beauty and meaning to each other and the world.” – Mary Jenson
